21.04.2008: Second race in Oschersleben
After the exciting season start in Hockenheim, the whole DTM had to travel to Oschersleben directly, because the second race weekend took place immediately the following weekend, so no break for Futurecom-TME.
As they joined the official ITR test some weeks before, both Katherine and Christijan already knew the track. And so the first tests were quite promising with a 10th best lap time of Christijan in test 1, and 15th of Katherine in test 2.
But as these two tests were mostly wet, it was difficult to find the perfect set up, especially as the Qualifying then was in the dry. Both drivers gave their very best, but unfortunately more than 17th position in the grid
for Christijan, and 19th for Katherine was not possible.
Christijan had a good start and was able to follow Ralf Schumacher pretty well, but then unfortunately Oliver Jarvis brushed him and he slid into the guard rail. Christijan: "After that, I had a problem with my suspension and steering system. Actually, I could have headed for the pit lane right then and there, but I wanted to finish the race at all cost, if for no other reason than to gather data. On new tyres, I even set some decent times, although the car's balance was gone."
To note is that Christijan managed to do the 9th fastest lap in the race, what shows what would have been possible without that incident. Furthermore he and his team worked perfectly together in the pit stops, what
is documented with the 5th fastest pit stop time.
Katherine again did very good and constant lap times and finished her second DTM race despite drive through penalty as 17th. "That was a very turbulent race. I'm satisfied with my lap times and with my car, but not with my result."
The race was won by Timo Scheider ahead of Martin Tomczyk and Bruno Spengler.
